All we know is love

This work was born out of a feeling of betrayal I feel towards my upbringing in Switzerland. We were taught an idea of Switzerland as an island of neutrality and moral beauty. We love it, it’s our core story. But the reality behind swiss history and present actions is too dark to live peacefuly with it. I wanted to explore these questions by focusing on various international scandals involving Swiss multinationals, while trying to physically infiltrate the headquarters of some of these companies. The work consists on one part of a collection of fictional testimonies inspired by four real tragedies caused by Swiss institution. These stories are interpreted by paid actors living in the countries concerned. On the other part, the videos are complemented by a series of images shot in Switzerland. These pictures are stolen images of private institution that we are not allowed to photograph, and the majority of time, not even to enter. By completely underexposing my photographic shots, all the images appear black on the camera screen. Doing so, the security guards can’t order me to erase anything if they ask me to look at my camera. The images are then re-exposed in post-production, revealing their hidden content, and their special texture due to the camera being pushed to its limits. The goal is to highlight the opacity of companies that have their headquarter in our Swiss towns, but also to explore a different way of telling stories, inspired by the storytelling found on social media. These videos aims to open a dialogue on manipulation of information as well as the deconstruction of the lie of the Swiss purity.
